Vidor High School confirmed Friday that there are a number of students who have reported having scabies.
The district is working quickly with a thorough cleaning.
Nurse Kelli Fontana released the following information-
Campus cleaning: Our custodians are doing continuous cleaning and sanitizing across campus. This weekend, they’re taking things a step further with a deep clean of the high school and fully fumigating all athletic facilities.
Locker/Extra Clothes: Students were instructed via a school announcement today to bring home any extra clothes stored on campus (such as in athletics, band, or gym lockers) so they can be washed in hot water.
Friday’s clothes: As a simple precaution, please wash the clothes they wore to school Friday in hot water immediately.
Please take a look at the attached info from our Health Services Coordinator, Nurse Kelli Fontana, which lists the main symptoms to watch for at home.
Scabies is a contagious skin infestation caused by microscopic mites that burrow into the skin. Common symptoms include:
– Intense itching, often worse at night
– A red, pimple-like rash or small blisters
– Thin, wavy lines or burrows on the skin
– Rash commonly appearing between the fingers and toes, wrists, elbows, armpits, waistline, groin, buttocks, or breasts.
If your student is experiencing symptoms that may be consistent with scabies, we highly encourage you to have your student evaluated by a healthcare provider. If diagnosed, please follow the provider’s treatment recommendations. Household members and close contacts may also need evaluation or treatment to prevent reinfection.
