A Port Arthur man was convicted of murder Thursday in connection with the 2021 shooting death of a Vidor man and was sentenced to life in prison.
Darius Rashard Stevenson, 42, of Port Arthur, was found guilty of murder by a jury on Aug. 20, 2026, in connection with the shooting death of Brennan Flores. The jury sentenced Stevenson to confinement for life in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division.
The case stems from a shooting shortly after midnight July 6, 2021, at a residence in the 1200 block of Shamrock in Vidor. According to investigators, Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies and emergency personnel arrived to find Flores suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Flores later died from his injuries.
While speaking with witnesses at the scene, investigators developed a lead involving a possible name and vehicle used by the suspect. With assistance from the Port Arthur Police Department, Orange County investigators were able to identify Stevenson as a suspect.
Investigators later located Stevenson in a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle believed to have been used in the shooting. A search warrant was obtained and executed on the vehicle. Forensic scientists with the Jefferson County Regional Crime Lab subsequently recovered a firearm that matched the weapon used in the shooting.
Stevenson later provided a statement to investigators. He initially denied being in Vidor but later admitted he was present at the time of the shooting.
Authorities credited several agencies and investigators for their work on the case, including the Jefferson County Crime Lab, Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard and Capt. Jimmy Smith, Jasper County Detective David Lampman, and Jasper County District Attorney’s Office Investigator Connie Jordan.
The Flores family also expressed appreciation for those involved in the investigation and prosecution, saying the work of investigators helped bring closure and justice for Brennan.
Bard Anderson represented the District Attorney’s office. The trial was held in the 260th Courtroom of Judge Steve Parkhurst.
