Monday was an unusually busy day for thieves taking vehicles. Orange police took reports on a stolen Honda motorbike, a stolen Hummer and a stolen pickup truck. A resident living in the 1200 block of Pine Avenue in the Old Orange Historic District called at 1:20 a.m. to report a 2016 Honda CR-v 1000 sport motorbike was stolen from his carport. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the bike has not been recovered. About 9 a.m., the 2007 Hummer was reported stolen from a law office at 205 Border Street, across from the Orange County Jail. County Judge Brint Carlton announced at the meeting of Commissioners Court Tuesday that he has selected Charlie Cox as the new Emergency Management Coordinator. Cox has 36 years experience as a fire fighter. He is currently with the Beaumont Fire Department. Man Arrested For Beating Wife
A Mississippi man staying at the Motel 6 in Orange faces a charge of aggravated assault and evading arrest after his wife was beaten. Acadian Ambulance was called to treat the woman, who had lost consciousness during the beating. Orange Patrol Officer J.L. Goins reported the clerk at the hotel called 9-1-1 at 3:35 a.m. because he was awakened by screaming and banging above his room. BC Votes No Changes To Homestead Exemption
The Bridge City School trustees voted Monday night to continue with no changes to the district’s local homestead exemption. In June 2015 the trustees voted to exercise their local option and not grant a homestead exemption for taxpayers in the district. Superintendent Todd Lintzen indicated his office received a letter last week from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and the Commissioner of Education Mike Morath strongly encouraging Bridge City to reverse its local option and grant the homestead exemption. County Looking For New Auditor
The three state district judges in Orange County will be posting a job notice seeking a new county auditor. 128th District Judge Courtney Arkeen said current auditor Mary Johnson has not resigned and will stay until a new auditor is hired. Judge Arkeen said Johnson's husband has gotten his "dream job" of supervising gardens at Texas A&M University in College Station. Joseph Johnson is the director of horticulture at Shangri La Gardens in Orange. The judges hired Mary Johnson as county auditor in December 2012. Attorney’s Stolen Vehicle Returned
Local lawyer Nolan LeBlanc had his Hummer SUV stolen Monday morning from his office parking space across the street from the Orange County Jail. "I unfortunately left the keys in it because I thought I was going to go back out right away," he said. OnStar tracking system helped Calcasieu Parish sheriff's deputies to stop the SUV off Interstate 10 in Starks. The SUV was recovered and a 22-year-old man was arrested. Store Robbed By Two
The Honey Stop convenience store, 1012 West Park Avenue, was robbed about 11 p.m. Sunday by two men. Police report one had a black, semi-automatic pistol. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the two men were wearing black hoodies pulled over their heads. Their faces were covered with only their eyes showing. They were also wearing purple surgical gloves. They are described as black, with one about 5-feet-5 and the other 5-feet-3. The same store was robbed by two men with handguns last year on June 12. Miller Named To All-State Team
West Orange-Stark junior KJ Miller was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association All-State Baseball team as a second baseman. Miller had an incredible season hitting .500 at the plate. Miller's worth to the team unfortunately showed itself during the district campaign when a team tied for first place almost slipped out of playoff contention when a wild pitch broke a bone in his hand.
