Orange police say a pedestrian accident on 16th Street Friday morning was an attempted suicide. Captain Keith Longlois said a 22-year-old man ran out into 16th Street from Sunset Park into a vehicle about 9 a.m. The man had non-incapacitating injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Orange Holds Budget Workshop
Orange in a couple of years will pay off bond debt from the police station and a fire station. The city council at that time would be able to choose to borrow more money to pay for new projects without any change in the budget, City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre told the council Thursday. BC Man Pleads Guilty
A 21-year-old Bridge City man earlier this month pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in connection with a collision that killed a man last year. Tyler Wayne Hodgkinson will be on five years of probation, pay a $1,000 fine and do 100 hours of community service. The community service will include talking to youth about the dangers of drinking and driving. Hodgkinson was arrested March 8, 2015, for intoxication manslaughter after his pickup truck hit a small car at 4:45 in the morning at the intersection of Highway 87 and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Expanding Pride and Progress
Orange County appears to be willing to get on board for the City of Vidor’s Pride and Progress of awarding tax abatement to new residential construction. The Commissioners Court approved an interlocal agreement this week to join the economic development program with Vidor. A question was raised if the county should join Vidor in the program because the city has left the Orange County Economic Development Corporation.
