Two longtime assistants are getting their first chance to lead their teams. Jeremy Gray, who just completed his 10th season as Kyle Green's assistant baseball coach at Vidor, will take over the Pirate program after Green joined the Lamar baseball team as its pitching coach. Brad Jeffcoat takes over as the head coach of the Little Cypress-Mauriceville basketball team after six seasons of sitting next to Darin Harley on the Bear bench. Pitre Gets 15 Years In Robbery
Thursday State District Judge Dennis Powell agreed to a 15-year sentence for 24-year-old Jordan Chancelor Pitre for being the getaway driver to an armed robbery at Sun Loan Company on 16th Street. Pitre pleaded guilty after agreeing to the 15 years in prison. He is the last of the four men involved in the August 24, 2015, robbery of Sun Loan. In May, a jury in Judge Powell's 163rd District Court found 24-year-old Mason Paul Butler guilty of aggravated robbery. He inspected 16 places during the first two weeks of June and gave high scores. The lowest was an 88. Juanita Timberlake, who worked at the depot for 29 years beginning in 1946, talks with contractor Jack Elliott about a freight and baggage scale she used to use. Layers of plaster have been removed from walls in the old Southern Pacific train depot. Original wainscoting is being scraped in an effort to discover 100-year-old paint colors.
