On the evening of July 26, 2026, Joseph Damon Gorney, passed away at the age of 45 in Tutwiler, Mississippi.
A Celebration of Joseph’s life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on August 8, 2026 in the Chapel of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, Texas with Pastor Chad Stubblefield officiating.
Joseph was born on December 12, 1980, in Linden, Texas, to Janice “Gorney” Whitaker. He grew up in Orange, attending school in the West Orange-Cove School District.
He will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends, the memories he created, and the lives he touched throughout his life. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Some souls are never measured by the mistakes they made, but by the love they gave, the loyalty they showed, and the lives they forever changed. Joey walked a road that wasn’t always easy, yet his heart never stopped finding the people who mattered. His story doesn’t end with his final breath, it lives on in every laugh he shared, every battle he fought, every life he protected, and every person he refused to leave behind.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Hannah Kimmel; his father, Jimmy Hickey Sr.; and his brother, Donald Hickey.
Joey is survived by his beloved children, Natalynn Gorney, Kamden Gorney, Asher Gorney, Andrew Hamblen, and Karlee Haney; his grandson, Kashton, Natalynn’s son; his loving siblings, Kylene Gorney, Jennifer and Michael Bellon, Loucindy and James Mosley, Christina Gorney, Amanda Gorney, Robert Hickey, Jimmy Hickey Jr., Jonathan Hickey, and Dustin Hickey. Joseph also leaves behind Jacob Puckett, who was like a brother to him, along with Lauren Puckett and their children, Jaidyn, Braidyn, and Haidyn, who shared a special bond with him and will forever cherish his memory.
If Heaven wasn’t ready for Joey, they better be now. And if you hear someone in Heaven saying they’re “really like that,” don’t worry…
That’s just Joey making his entrance.
