
According to West Orange Fire Chief David Roberts, the WOFD responded to a report of a structure fire at the corner of Western Avenue and Newton St. at approximately 11:50 p.m. Wednesday.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a home with heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the residence. Firefighters initially began attacking the fire, but the flames quickly spread throughout the home.
Three occupants were inside the residence at the time. All three were able to safely escape, along with four dogs. One additional dog remains unaccounted for. No occupants were injured in the fire.
The cause remains under investigation. The residence appears to be a total loss due to extensive fire, smoke and water damage.
Multiple agencies responded to assist at the scene. Mutual aid was provided by the City of Orange Fire Department, Orange County ESD No. 2, Orange County ESD No. 3, Orange County ESD No. 4 and the Pinehurst Fire Department. Acadian Ambulance Service also responded, along with officers from the Pinehurst and West Orange police departments.
