First responders were called to the 16th Street overpass around 2pm Sunday following an accident where three vehicles burned but fortunately no life-threatening injuries were reported.
The driver of the 18 wheeler, filled with 40,000 pounds of green tomatoes, said he hit a hump in the road causing his vehicle to veer to the left. The truck then struck a passenger vehicle and they struck the center wall. The truck driver and driver of the automobile were all able to get out before a fire started. The driver told first responders he thought something happened physically to his truck when he hit the hump.
At the same time a man on a motorcycle was right behind the accident when it happened. The Louisiana man laid down his bike to avoid striking the 18 wheeler. But the fuel running down the overpass also caught his bike on fire. He was taken to the hospital with severe road rash.
Several people on social media were talking about the hump in the newly constructed overpass while the fire was being put out. The investigation will continue.
