A 28-year-old Orange man pleaded guilty to federal charges in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales. Jonathan Michael Swearingen pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography before U.S. Magistrate Judge Zachary J. Hawthorn. Commissioners Discuss Roads
Starting Wednesday oil pipelines will be laid in the coming months under the right of way on five county roads. The county has accepted a bond from oil companies to pay for repairs of any damage done to county roadways and ditches by the trucks hauling the pipelines. Commissioners questioned how long they can hold on to the bond since sometimes the damage to the roads is not evident for several months. The Orange County Clerk's Office received new license forms Monday morning for same-sex marriages. It took a day for the word to get out. County Clerk Brandy Robertson said her office issued seven licenses Tuesday for same sex marriages. State law requires a 72-hour waiting period between a wedding ceremony and the issuance of the license. A district judge can waive the wait. That's what happened Tuesday. Up to 20 brass-coated railroad axle bearings worth $1,000 each were stolen during the weekend from Gulf Coast Rail Service in downtown Orange. Police report that company personnel discovered the theft about 7:40 Monday morning. The business is at 1301 W. Front Street. Officer T.P. Pruitt said the axle bearings had been kept in a 80-foot long storage trailer. The bearings are described as being in a semi-circle 12 inches long.
