Tuesday morning Pinehurst Police received a call about a nonresponsive man in a red truck in the parking lot of the Marketplace Shopping Center.
Police arrived and attempts were made to wake him but to no avail. He was later pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Joy Dubose-Simonton.
Pinehurst PD Lt. Willis said after his investigation and using video surveillance it was learned that he walked out of the MiCasa Restaurant at approximately 2:45pm Monday afternoon. Some customers were leaving the restaurant at the same time and say they didn’t believe he was in a condition to drive.
They talked to him and he said he had an appointment nearby so they convinced him to get in the passenger seat and “sleep it off.” An alarm was set on his phone and they started the truck for the A/C. When he was found Tuesday morning the truck was not running because it had run out of gas.
The man was identified as 57 year old Troy Harper of Orange. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death. Lt. Willis said there was no evidence of foul play.
