Lydia Mae Ashworth Fontenot was born January 7, 1928, and passed away March 28, 2026, at the age of 98.
She was a woman whose life was defined by love, laughter, and the joy she found in the people around her. Her family was the center of her world, and she took the greatest pride in the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. Whether gathered around the table for a home-cooked meal or sharing stories filled with laughter, she created moments that will be cherished forever.
She had a vibrant spirit and energy that made every day feel special. She loved playing bingo, where her competitive side and playful nature always shined, and she never passed up a good shopping trip, especially when it meant finding something perfect for someone she loved. She was always on the go, embracing life with enthusiasm and a warm smile.
Known for her giving heart, she was the kind of person who showed up for others without hesitation. Her kindness and generosity touched everyone who knew her, and she had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for.
She was also a wonderful cook, and her kitchen was a place of comfort, filled with the aromas of meals made with love. Sharing food was her way of bringing people together, and no one ever left her table without feeling full in both body and heart.
She is survived by her children, Linda Trahan and husband Earl, and Brenda Gibson; son-in-law, Rufus Sonnier; grandchildren, Sherry Duhon, Brent Sonnier and wife Shawn, Natasha Gibson, Melissa Waguespack and husband Brent, Shelly Gibson, and Earl “Tater” Trahan; great grandchildren, Michael, Hunter, Slade, Cole, Cade, Maci, Kailee, Destinee, Darian, Asthon, and Emma; numerous great great grandchildren; brother, Virgil Ashworth and wife Sharon; and numerous nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hilery Fontenot; daughter, Carolyn Sonnier; great grandchild, Kelton Smith; parents, Asa and Emma Ashworth; and siblings, Charles “Hop” Ashworth, James Ashworth, Mac Ashworth, Edith Roberts, Hazel Gibson, Opal Sabins, Betty Accord, and Bonnie Clubb.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Oakwood Manor Nursing Home for the love and support given to Lydia. She loved the friends she made during her time there.
Arrangements are pending at this time.
