Officiating will be Reverend Darrell Orange, Reverend Michael Orange, and Reverend Stacy Myers. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Orange. Thieves Hit Local Businesses
Two family-owned businesses in Orange County had burglars either Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. Synical Designs Custom Body, 7689 North Highway 87 in Little Cypress, and The Swim Club, 9908 FM 105 in Orangefield, had the unwelcomed visitors. Steffan Milligan owns Synical Designs and said someone got inside his business through the front door. He lost a number of air tools. He thinks the crook, or crooks, has probably been in the business before because they knew where the tools were. On July 3 at 2:34 AM, Officers from the Orange Police Department were dispatched to 1802 Mississippi, Burkart’s Marina, in reference to a possible alligator attack. Upon arrival on the scene at 2:39 AM, Officers were advised that Tommy Woodward, of Orange, and a female were swimming in the bayou when the 28 year old Woodward was attacked by a large alligator. Witnesses said the two were drinking at the marina's bar when they decided to go into the water although they were told not to and there are signs posted that say "No Swimming." Louisiana Center to Close
Travelers to Louisiana have until Monday, July 6, to take advantage of free maps and information about the Pelican State at the state run Welcome Center in Vinton. Todd Landry with the Louisiana Department of Transportation said the state will close the more than 30-year old center after the Fourth of July holiday to demolish it and begin construction of a new center, with additional parking, new picnic arbors, a covered lake lookout, and enhanced landscaping at the same location on eastbound Interstate 10. The Stark Foundation continues to lead monthly building permits issued by the City of Orange. The foundation during the past three years has invested millions of dollars in building improvements, including the restoration of the old First Baptist Church building on Green Avenue. In June, the foundation received a permit to install $1.425 million on a Honeywell climate system for the Lutcher Theater.
