Evelyn was born on July 11, 1943 in Orange, Texas to parents Clothilde (Normand) and Laurence Buriel Peveto Sr. She was a lifelong resident of Orange and was of the Baptist Faith. Evelyn enjoyed making floral arrangements; she had worked at several local flower shops for many years, Fuller’s Floral Shop and Heaven Scent. Winfree Turns 100
A century ago, scattered farming families in central Orange County's Winfree Community had a difficult time getting to church on Sundays. Horses, wagons and buggies were the main transportation. What is now Old Orange Baptist Church was nine miles away across dirt roads that often turned to mud. Sometimes water pooled in foot-deep holes. Louisiana Tech true freshman safety Johnny Shaw is no longer listed on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs' roster and has left the program. Orange Expanding Water Lines
The first step has been made for the City of Orange to extend water and sewer lines along Allie Payne Road. The Orange City Council agreed to spend $51,955 for the engineering firm of Fittz and Shipman to plan the new lines plus a sewerage lift station. The council and the city's Economic Development Corporation board of directors previously agreed to spend $658,000 in the upcoming budget year for the new project. The city plans to eventually have water and sewer lines all the way westward along Allie Payne Road to Martin Luther King Junior Drive. Four Arrested For Robbery
Police have filed aggravated robbery charges against four men from Orange in connection with the Monday hold-up at Sun Loan, 1104 16th Street. Charges were filed against 20-year-old Joshua Tremaine Shaw, who was arrested Tuesday, 24-year-old Jordan Chancelor Pitre, who was arrested Wednesday, and 23-year-old Mason Paul Butler and 18-year-old Raymond Charles Young, who were both arrested Thursday. The West Orange-Stark Mustangs prepared for this week’s season opener with a scrimmage against the Nederland Bulldogs and a combined scrimmage against Bridge City and Vidor. Coach Cornel Thompson believes the Mustangs showed improvement in the final warm-up with the Cardinals and Pirates which both run the Slot-T offense as now do their first opponent this week the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears. The department is calling it a show of support and remembrance for Louisiana Trooper Steven Vincent, who was shot and killed on Sunday, August 23 after making a traffic stop in Bell City, La. Orange police arrested a 53-year-old West Orange man for aggravated robbery soon after a surveillance video from a motel was released Tuesday. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said someone recognized the man on the video and notified OPD. Ross Smith, who lives on Austin Street in West Orange was arrested at 4 Tuesday afternoon and is in the Orange County Jail. Police reported a man was at the Executive Inn on 27th Street off Interstate 10 about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
