Deweyville defeated Evadale Tuesday night in 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 29-27, 25-21). The Lady Pirates moved their record to 15-2 on the season. Shaylin Dupuy tallied her first ever 50 assists night while adding 9 digs and an ace. Kennidee Willis put away an astonishing 39 kills, along with 5 aces and 29 digs. Gabby Dupuy passed up a personal best 44 digs. Mallory Hand put away 6 blocks, 7 aces, 4 kills, and 3 digs. Brooke Smith added 8 kills, 1 block and 2 digs. LCM Week 2 preview
Week 1 saw the Orange Bowl go to the West Orange-Stark Mustangs. Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears Coach Randy Crouch is disappointed in the loss, but was pleased by the effort put forth by his Bears. In Week 2 the opposition does not get any easier as LC-M plays the Class 5A Barbers Hill Eagles. Coach Crouch says the Eagles are very experienced on offense. Crouch points out Barbers Hill runs the Wishbone and has 10 seniors starting on offense. The Eagles are especially strong in the offensive line and at fullback. Eight of 29 food establishments received perfect scores from Orange County Health Inspector James Scales during the last part of August. Two of the total were pre-opening inspections with no scores. The lowest score was an 82 for the Texas Country Store at 7411 Interstate 10 East in Orange. Budget Workshop
The Commissioners Court conducted a budget workshop Tuesday morning. The workshop looked at capital outlay requests from various county departments, projected revenues, and expenditures for the next fiscal year which starts October 1. Auditor Mary Johnson presented a proposed budget to the Court that showed expenditures exceeding expected revenues by about $3.8 million, but with an assumed carryover of four million dollars from this fiscal year the county would still be in the black by about $227,000. Parents accused a member of the West Orange-Cove school board of posting on Facebook during the weekend that the Fillies dance team looked like they were "dancing for tips" during the halftime performance Friday night. The Deweyville Pirates were shutout in the season opener last week, but Coach Lance Dale says the Pirates are showing improvement and their opponent the East Chambers Buccaneers in that first game are very good. Donald Bowman, 79, of Orange, Texas, passed away on August 30, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Randy Schirck will be officiating. Burial will be at Autumn Oaks Cemetery in Orange. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 12:00pm.
