Another tough contest is anticipated this week as West Orange-Stark travels to Silsbee to play the undefeated Tigers. It was five years ago today (September 17) that West Orange-Stark quarterback Reggie Garrett threw a touchdown pass to Mark Roberts against Jasper, and then collapsed on the sidelines. Garrett was pronounced dead at age 17 from an undetectable heart disease. Jury Returns With Verdict
A jury Wednesday night decided that a 33-year-old Beaumont man was guilty of engaging in organized criminal activity. Taurean "T.J." Bass drove a pickup truck as three men with guns raided a drug house on Ridgemont Drive in December. The residents inside the house were also armed and a shoot-out ensued. A Houston man with Bass died of gunshot wounds in the front yard of the house. Another man with Bass, plus a man living at the house were seriously injured. Bass faces 15 years to life in prison. The resident of a home on Gum Street in Bridge City addressed the City Council Tuesday about complaints from neighbors and letters from the city informing her she is in violation of city ordinances by having goats, chickens, and rabbits enclosed by a fence in her front yard.
