Deweyville Lady Pirates defeated the Warren Lady Warriors Friday night in 4 games (25-17, 24-26, 25-23, 25-18). Stepping up for the Pirates Friday night was Brooke Smith and Haylee Ladner with 21 and 13 kills respectively. Shaylin Dupuy dished out 45 assists. Gabby Dupuy had 26 digs and 32 good serve receives. Vote Continues in Orangefield
After two days of early voting for a Tax Ratification Election, the Orangefield school district has had 22 people cast a ballot. The district is asking voters to approve a tax increase past the state maximum to help pay education costs. The state has cut payments to public schools for several years. The proposed tax rate will go from $1.04 per $100 valuation to $1.17 cents per $100 valuation on property. The school district information says the median house in is valued at $117,000. Bass Sentenced
A jury decided that the man driving a pickup truck for armed invaders at a drug house on Ridgemont Drive should serve 30 years in state prison. The jury Wednesday night decided 33-year-old T.J. Bass of Beaumont was guilty of engaging in organized criminal activity. The punishment ranged from 15 years to life in prison. The jury listened to testimony in the sentencing phase and then spent more than three hours to decide the punishment. Attempted Robbery at Gunpoint
A man told Orange police he was walking along Green Avenue when a man in a car followed him from a convenience store and tried to rob him at gunpoint. The victim called police at 10:14 p.m. after the gunman was unsuccessful. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said the attempted robbery is not similar to robbery last Thursday night in the nearby Old Orange Historic District. The man told Officer T.P. Chase Ends on 16th, One Arrested
On Thursday September 17 at about 5:00 pm the Orange Police Department began receiving reports of a dark gray Chevrolet truck driving recklessly though town. While officers were searching for the reckless driver, he collided with a car in the curve of Masonic Drive and 37th street. The driver of that car, a pregnant woman, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Officer Myers located and attempted to stop the truck near 20th street and Sunset Drive but the truck fled. The Orangefield Bobcats had three tests last week. The first was the opponent the Beaumont Kelly Bulldogs, the second was it was their first road game of the year, and third it was a game coming off the Bobcats’ first loss of the season. Orangefield passed all three tests with a 21-0 victory.
