A three decade era ended Thursday at the Texas Travel Information Center in Orange. Becky Barker had her final work day at the state run info center Thursday afternoon bringing to a close 29 years and 4 months of service to Texas and the traveling public. Barker started working at the center right out of high school when it was still known as the Texas Tourist Bureau. Voting is Slow
Early voting for the seven state constitutional amendments has been slow in Orange County even though one will lower school property taxes if it passes and another recognizes the right of citizens to hunt and fish. County Elections Administrator Tina Barrow said 1,352 people have voted by the end of Tuesday, which was the seventh day of early voting. City Buys Vehicles
The Orange City Council on Tuesday agreed to buy five new Tahoe SUVs for the Police Department. The new vehicles will cost a total of $203,000 with an added police package. Chief Lane Martin said the SUVs will be replacing old patrol cars that have more than 100,000 miles each. The police department in the past few years has been buying SUVs for patrol vehicles instead of passenger sedans. The fleet has been using Ford Explorers. Their first district win of the season last week has the Deweyville Pirates and Coach Lance Dale pumped heading into this week’s game with the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs. Coach Dale says Corrigan-Camden does not do whole lot of different things when they have the football. Dale states the Bulldogs like to line up and run the toss sweep, over, and over, and over again.
