The Sheriff’s Office needs patrol vehicles. The county says it does not have the money to buy new cars for the Sheriff’s Office. After half an hour of discussing the problem Tuesday the result was the Commissioners Court voted to take no action on getting more patrol vehicles for the Sheriff. The Court was split 3 to 2 as both Commissioners John Banken and David Dubose expressed desire during the discussion to purchase some vehicles for the Sheriff even if it was not the full total of 15 requested by Sheriff Keith Merritt during budget workshops. Bridge City vs Silsbee The BCMS football teams played Silsbee Tuesday night and came away 3-1 on the night. The 8th grade Red team defeated the Tigers 19-0. Logan Hamm had two touchdown runs. Andy Lara had a 10 yard touchdown run and an extra point. George Fleming and Izzy Ortega had solid contributions. Jackson Timms added a 25 yard yard pass and played well on defense. Four Headed To State
LCM freshman Eli Peveto finished 13th at the 5K Regional Cross Country Meet and will advance to State in Round Rock on Nov. 7. He ran a time of 19:21 and was the top freshman finisher. The overall winner from Robinson ran 18:02. Bridge City sophomore Isaiah Maldanado finished 23rd overall (19:45) and will also advance. Several Accidents Over Weekend
An SUV rolled over after hitting a culvert off North Highway 62 Sunday night and the driver had to be taken to a Beaumont hospital. It was one of three accidents with injuries that Orange police investigated during the rains on Sunday. The roll-over happened about 11:30 p.m. in the 9800 block of North Highway 62 in Mauriceville near Arabie Road. 36-year-old Matthew Key of Kirbyville was taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. A two-vehicle head-on collision Monday about four miles east of Lufkin on State Highway 103 has resulted in three fatalities. A Dodge Neon attempted to pass another car when it ran head on into a Jeep, according to KTRE. Carl Hammerly, a 49 year old LCM Class of 1984 grad living in Broaddus, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two people in the jeep later died of their injuries.
