A new Justice of the Peace was appointed for Precinct 1 Tuesday by the Commissioners Court. Hershel Stagner, Jr. was unanimously approved by the Court out of the seven persons who submitted resumes to replace the retiring David Peck in January. LCM Bus In Accident Monday
A Little Cypress-Mauriceville school bus carrying high school students was involved in a one vehicle accident Monday afternoon. No one on the bus was injured. Most students were moved to a second bus for the trip home. A few others had parents pick them up at the site. According to the district, the bus was on Bilbo Road, a very narrow street, and the driver moved toward the shoulder as a truck approached from the opposite direction. In the wet conditions the wheels began sliding in the mud and when the driver corrected to keep the bus on the road, it ended up straddling the road. Man Arrested For Shaking Baby
A 28-year-old man is in the Orange County Jail facing life in prison for seriously injuring his 2 1/2 month-old son by violent shaking. The baby had to be taken by medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital in Houston with brain injuries. He has recovered and is living with his mother and 2-year-old brother with relatives. A charge of injury to a child, a first degree felony, was filed with the Orange County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 office against Jeffrey Allen Sanchez. Bond has been set at $250,000.
