Fence Back On Agenda
The Orange Historic Preservation Commission is ready to decide which side of the fence to land. The commission will meet on Monday at 5:30 p.m. to discuss a fence in the Old Orange Historic District that the city considers illegal. Christine Vermeulen Hanchey has an application on the agenda to receive a certificate of appropriateness for the fence at her house at 711 Eighth Street. The Brown Estate was the site of the 2017 Athena Award presentation Tuesday morning. The award, sponsored by First Financial Bank, honors local women for professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills. County Commissioners Meet
The Commissioners Court had three closed sessions Tuesday to discuss pending or possible litigation with their attorney as part of the weekly meeting. Assistant County Attorney Doug Manning recommended no action be taken by the Court as a result of any of the closed sessions. The Commissioners were to consider a consumer price index increase on the price of meal service provided by Five Star Correctional Services at the Orange County Jail. Bergeron Added To Johnny Bench List
University of the Incarnate Word freshman catcher Kyle Bergeron was added to the most recent Johnny Bench Award watch list, released on May 4 by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission. Three incumbents on the West Orange City Council were given their oaths of office for another term Monday. Mayor Roy McDonald, Dr. Frances Droddy-Lopez, and Carl Thibodeaux were sworn in by City Attorney Rex Peveto during the City Council meeting. Following the swearing in ceremony the council unanimously elected Shirley Bonnin to continue as the Mayor Pro-Tempore.
