The Orangefield Bobcats completed a sweep of their playoff series with the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks Saturday afternoon at Port Neches-Groves. The Bobcats scored early and got a strong pitching performance from Mason Gonzales to win 5-1 in Game 2 and advance to the third round of the playoffs. Gonzales pitched a complete game for Orangefield yielding just six hits, walking two, and striking out seven. The only run he allowed was unearned. Mustangs Sweep Tarkington
The West Orange-Stark Mustang baseball team completed a two game sweep of the Tarkington Longhorns Saturday with a 7-4 win in Jasper. The win sets up a series with district opponent Orangefield in the third round of the 4A playoffs. Chad Dallas was the winning pitcher, giving up four runs on seven hits in the first four innings. Alton Edward Hare, 83 of Orange, died on May 10, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. A member of one the founding families of Orange, Alton was born to Henry Edward and Elizabeth “Esther” Hare on April 28, 1934 and was a life-long Orange resident.
