Negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement between the Sheriff’s Office Employees Association and Orange County shifted somewhat Wednesday. Previously the biggest hurdle was inclusion of a “Just Cause” provision in the proposed new contract. A new barrier maybe whether retiree benefits should be included in a new agreement. The Association says retirement benefits come with the job and should be included in a new contract. County Judge Brint Carlton disagrees pointing out the terms of the contract only cover active employees in the Sheriff’s Office. LCM Ready For Number One Challenge
Wednesday afternoon was just another practice for the LCM Lady Bears. Taking ground balls, catching fly balls, and working on game situations, things they've been doing since the first practice January 20. If you're still practicing after four months, you know that you've gone pretty deep into the playoffs. Lady Cardinals Ready For Leopards
After disposing of three southeast Texas opponents (Jasper, Liberty and Hardin-Jefferson) BC's fourth round opponent is the Lorena Leopards, the District 17 champs. Located some five hours away, just south of Waco, the two teams have agreed to use Huntsville as a neutral location. Game One is Friday at 7pm at Sam Houston State University. A man who was riding in a car with drugs and cash escaped Orange police in the middle of Monday night by swimming across Cooper's Gully. The woman who was driving the car was arrested for misdemeanor marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. Officer M.C. Bernard reported he was on a service call to the area of Sixth and Burton streets about midnight. He saw a Nissan four-door car traveling slowly by. As it passed, he smelled marijuana from the car. Pinehurst Reappoints Hood
The Pinehurst City Council re-appointed City Administrator Robbie Hood on Tuesday night. Hood was selected as the Pinehurst City Administrator in 2015 replacing the retiring Joe Parkhurst. Truck Fire Slows Traffic
Around 1pm Wednesday Orange firefighters responded to a diesel truck fire on the eastbound side of Interstate 10 just before the FM 1442 intersection. The driver told investigators he was driving the truck and smoke started coming out of the air conditioning vents. He exited without injury. The truck was carrying rebar mesh sheets.
