Certificate Pay for Sheriff’s Office deputies will terminate as of June 4. The Commissioners Court voted 3 to 2 on Tuesday not to extend the voluntary bonus payments from the county to deputies who receive additional training. Certificate pay was included in the previous contract adopted in 2009, but only through 2012. Since then the Commissioners Court has approved to voluntarily pay it. Man Stabbed On Cove Drive
A 26-year-old man from Orange underwent surgery after being stabbed during a fight with his girlfriend early Tuesday morning. Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the man's injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. Police went to an apartment on Cove Drive at 12:10 a.m. after a report about a stabbing. Wednesday is the deadline for property owners to appeal the latest appraised values on real estate. The appraisal values are used to calculate property taxes set by the elected officials of entities like city councils, school boards and county commissioners. Weekend Police Reports
Orange police have questioned two juveniles concerning a series of thefts and criminal mischief damage in areas across town, Detective Captain Robert Enmon said. However, the youth have not been connected to all the reported thefts during the holiday weekend. One of the victims was Orange County Sheriff Keith Merritt, who had fishing gear stolen from his 20-foot Skeeter parked at his house in the Cypress Bayou neighborhood.
