The Orange County Commissioners Court has approved the purchase of vehicles for the County’s full-time Constables as part of the 2026–2027 budget year, marking the first time the County has provided county-owned vehicles specifically for its full-time Constables.
The purchase represents an important investment in the County’s law enforcement operations and provides full-time Constables with dedicated county vehicles for official duties. Previously, Constables were required to use their personal vehicles when conducting County business.
“This is an important step forward for Orange County and our Constables,” said County Judge John Gothia. “Our full-time Constables perform essential duties on behalf of the County, and providing them with county vehicles ensures they have the appropriate resources to carry out those responsibilities while also protecting both the County and our employees.”
The transition from personal vehicles to County-owned vehicles also helps address liability concerns associated with using privately owned vehicles for official County business. Having dedicated County vehicles establishes a clearer distinction between personal and official use and provides the County with greater control over vehicle maintenance, insurance, and use for County operations.
The vehicles will be used by the full-time Constables in the performance of their official duties throughout Orange County. The Commissioners Court’s action is part of the County’s 2026–2027 budget and reflects its continued commitment to supporting County operations, public safety, and responsible risk management.
