A Jefferson County Grand Jury has indicted an Orange County woman for injury to a child younger than 15 years of age.
According to the affidavit of probable cause Beaumont Police were called to a restaurant on Dowlen on April 30.
The officer met with a 14 year old girl who said she was eating dinner with her mother when the mother became upset because she said her daughter was disrespecting her.
According to the girl, Steffani Keller, 36, of Mauriceville, struck her twice before she told her to go sit in the car. Keller then went to the car and began punching the girl with a closed fist in the back seat. She hit her in the face, stomach, and arms.
The girl eventually got out of the car and ran to a vehicle containing independent witnesses to the incident.
The witnesses confirmed the assault and gave statements while Keller was placed under arrest in double locked hand restraints. According to the officer Keller told him that he was proving to her children that they cannot be disciplined by her.
