Lillian Huckaby’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, family, and devotion. Born in 1939 and raised in Alabama by the two sweetest women she knew — Granny and Little Granny — Lillian grew up surrounded by the warmth, strength, and values that would shape the woman she became.
She shared a lifelong bond with her beloved sister, Dianne Prejean, a relationship filled with laughter, loyalty, and unwavering love. Later in life, Lillian met the love of her life, Melvin Huckaby. Together, they built a marriage that lasted 56 wonderful years — a partnership grounded in devotion, friendship, and a love that remained steadfast through every season of life.
Lillian’s greatest joy was her family. She was the proud mother of three children — Ronnie Huckaby, Regina Braden, and Rena’ Williams — and the cherished grandmother of eight grandchildren. She celebrated every blessing as her family continued to grow, including several great-grandchildren and, in recent years, the honor of welcoming her first great-great-grandchildren and celebrating the continuation of a fifth generation of the Huckaby family.
Lillian’s love extended far beyond her family. She loved to play BINGO and enjoyed playing softball and treasured the friendships and memories made through the game. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of Pecan Acres Baptist Church in Vidor, Texas, for many years. There, she found fellowship, friendship, and a church family she loved dearly.
Having also raised her grandchildren, Corey Chesser and Lacey Tezino, Lillian’s relationship with them was much deeper than that of a grandmother — she had been a source of love, guidance, stability, and support throughout their lives. In her final decade, Lillian was lovingly welcomed into the home of Lacey, her husband Darrance, and their three children, who cared for her in the most incredible ways. Their home became a place filled with comfort, laughter, and cherished moments. She actually raised Lacey and Corey as her own and..
Lillian will be remembered for her gentle strength, warm hugs, wise words, and unconditional love. She was the heart of her family — the keeper of stories and memories that will continue through the generations she cherished so deeply.
Though her family grieves her passing, they celebrate the incredible gift of her life and the love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives through her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and all those fortunate enough to have known her.
She was deeply loved, and she will be forever remembered for a life so well lived.
