No injuries were reported following an early-morning crash Wednesday involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 10 in Orange County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened around 4:40 a.m. near mile marker 863 on westbound I-10, two miles east of Vidor.
DPS says a 2026 Volvo tractor-trailer was parked on the westbound shoulder when a 2024 Freightliner carrying a load of automotive batteries failed to maintain its lane and struck the parked truck.
The impact sent several of the batteries onto the interstate, where they were struck by a westbound 2015 Nissan Altima. Some of the damaged batteries began leaking acid onto the roadway.
A hazardous-materials crew was called to the scene to contain and clean up the spill.
The 18 wheeler driver, 51-year-old Jornel Newman of Humble, was not injured. Two occupants of the Volvo, 50-year-old Angel Alva and 52-year-old Jose Garcia, both of Mexico, also escaped injury. The Nissan was driven by 44-year-old Roshica Hardges of Hammond, Louisiana, who was also not injured.
DPS says the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
