An employee with the Orange County Jail was seriously injured in an auto accident Tuesday morning in Mauriceville. At approximately 6:20 AM Tuesday, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a two vehicle crash on Highway 62 near the Mauriceville Fire Station at Cohenour Road. A 2015 Dodge pickup truck towing a trailer was traveling northbound on Highway 62. Orangefield art students did an outstanding job at their Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Show this weekend. Taking top honors of Best of Show was senior, Tierney Rice. Receiving Gold Medals were sophomore, Sable Reynolds and senior, Austin Flores. Two additional Special Merit Awards were presented to senior, Adam Winfree, and sophomore, Kinley McFarlin. Small Fire At Sunset Apartments
The Orange Fire Department put out a fire at the Sunset Apartments on Sunset Drive Monday afternoon. The fire department was called about 2:15 p.m. and quickly had the fire out. Firefighters report it started as someone was cooking. No evacuations were needed. The homeowner, Horvace Bryant, 25, arrived and told police he left a pot cooking on the stove while he went to the store. Payment Order
In an effort to avoid a re-occurrence of this month when gasoline credit cards for the Sheriff’s Office were deactivated, the Commissioners Court approved Tuesday an order that will pay certain bills without the initial approval of the Court. Twice in the last three months the county’s Shell gasoline credit cards have been deactivated because of late payment of the bills. Filter Equipment Contract in BC
The City Council awarded a contract for water filter equipment to be installed in three Bridge City water wells Tuesday evening. Simco Enterprises will handle the installation of water filtration equipment in the water wells at a cost of just under half a million dollars. City Manager Jerry Jones said this is another step Bridge City is taking to resolve the brown water problem in the city.
