King Shot and Killed Wednesday Morning
UPDATE: 7-22-2015 @ 4:15 p.m. The identity of the man who was shot in the leg is 37 year old Daryl King of Orange, Texas. The gunshot caused extensive damage to King’s leg. King eventually succumbed to the injury and died. The autopsy is scheduled on Thursday morning, July 23, 2015. Detectives are still following up on information that led to the shooting and more details will be released as it becomes available. At this time, no charges have been filed on the man who shot King. BC Council Meets
Bridge City has joined other local communities supporting the effort to get a Veterans Administration inpatient hospital in Orange County. The City Council approved a resolution Tuesday night requesting the establishment of a VA facility in Orange. Mayor Kirk Roccaforte said the idea to convert the Baptist Hospital in Orange into an inpatient facility for veterans is a good one. Roccaforte pointed out that the hospital in Orange has had its ups and downs, but converting it into a veterans’ inpatient facility would serve the people around here very well. Brittany Stevens has been the head coach of the Orangefield Lady Bobcat Track Team the past two years. Now she'll also be busy in the fall after being named the head coach of the OF Volleyball team. A summit Tuesday drew leaders, including a former congressman, from across Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. They gathered around a conference table in Orange to discuss plans to improve the water in the Gulf of Mexico with $1.9 billion. BC Man Sentenced to 25 Years
A 29-year-old Bridge City man is going to prison for 25 years for the aggravated sexual assault of a 2-year-old girl. A jury last week found Alan Edward Miller guilty and assessed the punishment. Assistant Orange County District Attorney Tom Kelley said the charge is termed "super aggravated" because the child was younger than 6 years of age. He said the assault was on March 22, 2014. The child, who is a relative of Miller, was taken to an area hospital. The nurses saw the signs of a sexual assault and contacted the Bridge City Police Department.
