Commander Robert Bruce Hinds, Medical Service Corps, U.S. Navy (retired) reported to the Staff of the Supreme Commander on September 14, 2015, for his final assignment. Bob, as he preferred to be called, was born September 14, 1930, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was the oldest of three sons born to James Robert and Agnes May (Turner) Hinds. Doris Ann James, 90, of Orange, passed from this life on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Born on August 27, 1925 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the next to the oldest of six children to her parents, Rufus Theron Lollar and Ruby Pearl (Olive) Lollar, she was a longtime resident of Orange and she had worked as a nurse’s aide in the healthcare industry. The board of the Orange County Emergency Services District No. 4 has named James Journeay as interim fire chief after demoting the previous chief. The ESD No. 4 serves the Mauriceville and McLewis communities. Board President Spencer Fuss said the two communities once had two separate fire departments. A Vidor man is dead after being struck by a car Saturday night in Cedar Park near Austin. The Cedar Park Emergency Communications Division received calls of an injury at the 1100 block of North Bell Boulevard at 11:06 p.m. Saturday night. According to KXAN when officers arrived on scene they found William Clarence Gifford, 37, of Vidor, as well as a 2009 Dodge Caravan and its driver. Back When Column Trisha Hale had a surprise at Stark High School her senior year, 1972. Boys lifted and carried her small, foreign car into the covered breezeway between two buildings. That remains as one of the famous school pranks through the years in Orange County.
