At approximately 8:00pm Orange Police and Fire responded to an Auto/Pedestrian accident in front of the Dominos Pizza location on MacArthur Drive. A mother and daughter, ages 25 and 6, were struck in the middle of the road and killed by a vehicle traveling westbound that left the scene. Police closed MacArthur Drive to thru traffic to investigate and later reopened it at 11:15pm. Restaurant Inspections
Orange County Health Inspector James Scales went to schools to give out grades. The 11 school cafeterias he visited during the latter part of October aced their inspections. All made perfect scores. Scales went to 18 food-related establishments during the period with the lowest score going to Kam Wah Buffet on Strickland Drive in Pinehurst. The restaurant had a 74 score and Scales said the establishment needed "more general cleaning. Registrar Transfer
The City of Orange is working with Orange County to transfer the issuing of birth and death certificates totally to be the responsibility of the county. Ramie Howlett works for the City of Orange’s registrar office which handles the issuing of birth and death certificates for the city. Consolidating the services into one office will make it more convenient for the public that need those documents. Orange Police Weekend Briefs
A 66-year-old man was stabbed in the right upper chest Friday night during an argument with a woman at his house. John Judge was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Orange police were called at 9:40 p.m. Friday to a house in the 2000 block of Fourth Street in the Brownwood addition. The woman had left the house by the time police arrived but she later returned. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said no arrests have been made the case will be presented to a grand jury. Police did not have an update on Judge’s condition Monday afternoon. Reverend Celebrates 25 Years
First Baptist Church of Orange celebrated the 25th anniversary of their pastor, Rev. Barry Bradley yesterday. Celebration programs and a church-wide luncheon were held to commemorate the milestone. Mayor Jimmy Sims presented a Proclamation honoring Rev. Bradley who began his ministry at FBCO on November 1, 1990, moving from Muleshoe, Texas with his wife Jackie and sons, Jeffrey and Jonathan. Murphy Burch Sr.
Murphy Burch Sr., 77, of Orange passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at his residence. Murphy was born on January 11, 1938 in Johnson Bayou, Louisiana to parents, Marie “Panjet” (Trahan) and Paul Alexander Burch. He was a lifelong resident of Orange and had lived briefly in Port Arthur as a child. He was a member of West Orange Church of Christ and was a collector of knives and coins. Murphy worked at Livingston Shipyard for many years as a warehouse superintendent and purchasing manager; he enjoyed visiting with his sales customers. BCI Red Ribbon Contest
Bridge City Intermediate celebrated Red Ribbon Week last week. Students learned how to "say no to drugs" with a variety of themed dress up days. BCI students ended the week by dressing up as storybook characters. At BCI we are "hooked on books, not drugs." Tuesday is Election Day
Orange County polling boxes will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for the election to add seven amendments to the Texas Constitution. The amendments are the only items on the ballot for the county. The Orange County Elections Administration Office reports a total of 1,973 ballots were cast during early voting. The county has 34 voting boxes and registered voters must go to the boxes listed on their voting registration cards. Two of the box locations have changed.
