Tommy L. Locke, 76, of Kirbyville passed away on Monday, November 16, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Tommy was born on May 23, 1939 in Shelby County, Texas to parents, Sybil (Powdrill) and Vernon Lee Locke. He had lived in the Kirbyville area since 1992, prior two years in Henderson and from 1980 until 1990 in New Mexico. Walter R. Ebanks
Walter R. Ebanks died November 13, 2015 at age 97. He was born on Grand Cayman Island, came to the USA as a deckhand, and volunteered to serve in the US Army in June 1941. He became a naturalized citizen of the US in Hawaii during World War II. He served as a Technical Sergeant in the Army Corps of Engineers and also qualified as a sharpshooter. He was awarded the Soldier’s Medal for heroism displayed in rescuing a drowning enlisted man on Oahu in 1945. 2nd Annual Special Angels Rodeo An Overwhelming Success The 2nd Annual Special Angels Rodeo, which was held this past Saturday, November 14th, at the T2 Arena and Event Center in Orange, was an overwhelming success according to event organizers. Special Angels Rodeo is the premier adaptive sport rodeo event in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. It is a free event and is open to all members of the special needs community regardless of age or disability. Teacher Arrested
An Orange County narcotics team Monday night arrested a Vidor High School teacher with a reported 9.6 ounces of methamphetamine in the car. The arrested began as a traffic stop about 8 p.m. on Interstate 10 near North Main Street in Vidor. 34-year-old Lauren Leigh Courmier of Vinton, Louisiana, was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail. She has been charged with the first degree felony of possession of a controlled substance. Tuesday morning, 128th State District Judge Courtney Arkeen set a bond of $300,000. New Chief Appointed
The West Orange Volunteer Fire Department has a new chief. The West Orange City Council approved the appointment of Terry Veitch by Mayor Roy McDonald as the new fire chief. Veitch has been with the department for 12 years since he joined as a junior fire fighter. Veitch said he has goals and plans for his fellow fire fighters. He hopes to write them down and share them with the other volunteers. Sales Tax Figures
The City of Pinehurst is the only entity in Orange County that has seen dropping sales tax revenues so far in 2015. The Texas Comptroller's Office sent monthly sales tax payments last week covering September sales. Pinehurst is down by $48,718 from the first nine months of 2014. City sales tax figures for September are: Orange County: $471,278 for the month, $4,754,864 for the year to date, up $463,160 for the first nine months.
