Bubba was born on December 12, 1956 in Orange, Texas to parents Opal Mae (Welch) and Hark Burch. He was a lifelong resident of Orange and was of the Baptist Faith. Officer Honored During Game
Petty Officer First Class John Adam Rodgers will officially retire from active duty in the Navy in May, 2016 with 20 years service. They Navy is flying his retirement flag over Longhorn Stadium Thanksgiving evening during the game. They will present the flag to him after the game and are supposed to show a video he made for them on the jumbo-tron also during the game. Adam grew up in Mauriceville and graduated from LCM in 1994. IH-10 Widening
Construction is supposed to start early next year to widen 10 miles of Interstate 10 from the KCS Railroad to FM 1442 in Orange County. The Texas Department of Public Transportation reports that Sterling Delaware Holding Company was awarded the $13 million project. The section of the interstate will be widened from four lanes to six lanes. The money is coming from a vote last year on a proposition to dedicate a portion of oil and gas tax revenue money to the state highway fund. Orange Police Briefs
A several thefts, including a grave marker and a wallet from a car parked at a church on Sunday, were reported to Orange police during the weekend period. The grave marker was reported Friday morning from Jett Cemetery on Old Highway 90 by the Brown Estate. A woman reported that a relative’s brass and concrete marker worth about $1,500 was missing. A member of the St. Mary Catholic Church congregation called police at 11:30 Sunday morning to report that his wallet with cash and credit cards had been stolen from his car parked on Eighth Street. Police Report Deals With Guns
Orange police on Friday had to deal with two incidents involving guns being fired. Numerous citizens called to report the guns. In one incident, three men wearing camouflage and tactical vests were at Lions Den Park on Main Street with rifles about 6:40 Friday night. Officer Logan Holland reported the guns turned out to be airguns but the resembled real weapons, including one that looked like an AR-15. Police first confiscated the guns and then returned them after informing the men about the city ordinance prohibiting firing firearms. EDC Has Candidate, But Who’s In?
As KOGT reported earlier the Orange County Economic Development Corporation is still alive. Funding for economic development has been put in the budgets for most of the entities that comprise the Orange County EDC, but despite positive comments from County Judge Brint Carlton after the Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors meeting Friday there are still some key entities with reservations about staying with the county wide economic development body.
