Orangefield hosted the JV/Freshman district tournament on Tuesday, March 22nd. Several Bobcats experienced success with five of those individuals bringing home medals. Freshmen girls, Emily Havens won first in singles and teammate, Jennifer Swift placed second. Michael Durbin also won boys singles with an impressive win in the finals 8-0. LCM Names New HS Principal
Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD Board of Trustees named Todd Loupe as the new High School principal in their regular March meeting on Monday evening. The District started the selection process earlier this semester when current High School Principal Dr. Terri Estes announced her retirement plans for the end of the 2015-2016 school year. Mr. Loupe will complete the school year in his position as Principal of Mauriceville Middle School and begin his new assignment this summer. Red Cross Resource Centers
The American Red Cross is opening mobile resource centers for victims of the Sabine River floods to get information and help from several agencies. Visitors will be able to meet case workers to help find resources to help in recovery. Food, water and cleaning supplies will be available. Residents seeking help should bring a driver's license, utility bill or other document showing they live in a flood-affected home. Pinehurst Crime
The Pinehurst Police Department in a joint operation shared with Orange County Precinct 2 Constable David Cagle has seized quantities of drugs, a firearm, and drug paraphernalia over the last week. The joint operation between Pinehurst and Constable Cagle is an effort to combat the distribution of illegal drugs including methamphetamine in the area. Flood Recovery
The water has receded and things are starting to return to normal for most people in Orange County. Emergency Management Coordinator Ryan Peabody stated of the 200 persons evacuated to the shelter at the Montagne Center there are still 55 that need a shelter. Monday the remaining evacuees were moved to a church in downtown Orange as a shelter until they are able to return to their homes. Road and Bridge Engineer Clark Slacum reported that over 60,000 sand bags were distributed by the county precinct barns to citizens during the flooding. Three Car Wreck Sunday
A baby and a toddler had minor injuries while riding in a car that was involved a three-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon at 16th Street and Burton Avenue. Orange police report the baby girl and 2-year-old boy were taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Baptist Hospital Emergency Room in Orange. Police Sunday in less than two hours investigated two three-vehicle crashes and a case of a woman running into the building at Jack in the Box Restaurant. Housing Authority Flood Report
The director of the Orange Housing Authority said the Alexander Homes apartments, which are for the elderly and handicapped, were the only public housing units that flooded. LaNita Brown said some of the apartments had about three inches of water and about two had six inches of water. Alexander Homes is at 2023 Fourth Street in East Town. Brown said most of the public housing residents stayed through the evacuation. The old Arthur Robinson apartments on Burton Avenue are vacant. Payton Robertson opened with a single and stole second. KJ Miller drove him home with a double. Jack Dallas and Ryan Ragsdale walked while Miller scored from third after a pick off attempt at first.
