Parts of Second Street and Meeks Drive will be getting new asphalt surfaces soon. The Orange City Council awarded a low-bid contract to L D Construction of Beaumont to do the job at a cost of $273,000. Public Works Director Jim Wolf said Second Street will get the coating from John Avenue to Pine Avenue, about 2,000 linear feet. Smash/Grab Investigation Continues
Orange police have been working with the Beaumont Police Department to investigate the recent smash-and-grab thefts at convenience stores. Early Friday morning, another Beaumont store was hit but the thieves failed to get the ATM that was the target. Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said investigators from Orange went to Beaumont to meet with detectives there to exchange and compare information. Auto/Ped Involves 2 Year Old
At approximately 6:00pm Friday, there was an auto-pedestrian crash that occurred in the Denbow Mobile Home Park on FM 1131 in Orange County. According to witnesses, a gray Chevrolet SUV was traveling within the mobile home park when a small child ran into the street. The vehicle struck the child and left the crash scene. Witness stated that the driver appeared to be a white male. The 2-year-old child was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital. Junior High Track Results
The Mauriceville Middle School Track Team placed several students in the recent District track meet. One the eighth grade team Colton McIlwain earned First in the 800 meter and in the 1200 meter run. He took Second in the triple and the long jumps. Tyler Rhodes was Third in the 1200 meter run and Mason Napier earned Third in the 200 hurdles. The 7th grade team won the district title.
