OC Health Inspections
Once again, Orange County Health Inspector James Scales was handing out A's and B's for scores. During the first two weeks of April, he went to 23 businesses or institutions dealing with food and handed out three perfect scores, including one to the Orange County Jail. The lowest score was an 83 and went to Wienerschnitzel on MacArthur Drive with violations including hot dogs at unsafe temperatures. Besides the jail, the perfect scores went to the Flava-Foods at Lamar State College-Orange Student Center and CVS on Texas Avenue in Bridge City. A woman was robbed at gunpoint late Friday night at her apartment at 1521 37th Street. Orange police were called at 11:30 p.m. to the complex. The woman said she was coming home from work and when she was at the steps to her apartment, a man grabbed her from behind and held his hand over her face. At first he demanded money and she offered him her billfold. She told police the man then demanded her cards and pressed the gun into her head. The LCM UIL One Act Play Company has claimed the Area Championship for the second consecutive year and are now heading to the 4-A Region Finals with their production of Noel Cowards "Blithe Spirit". Top Ten from Saturday's SETXHS Fishing Tournament on Sam Rayburn. Above: Dakota and Brandi Posey show off their stringer that placed them fifth out of some 400 teams that participated. Third place finishers Randy Abate and Kaden Duncan (both freshmen) of Bridge City. Orangefield's Cameron Nance placed 2nd for Biggest Fish with a 9.12lb. lunker. Kenneth William Erb, of Nederland, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Lake Arthur Place in Port Arthur, at the age of 74. Kenneth was born on April 8, 1942 to parents Marie (Riddiman) and George Raymond Erb. He had lived in the Nederland area for over 50 years.
