Orange is extending water and sewer lines another 1,600 feet along Allie Payne Road. Tuesday, the Orange City Council approved a bid of $472,000 to extend the lines westward from White Oak Road. The city has plans to eventually have water and sewer lines from Meeks Drive to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The city is using money from the special economic development sales tax approved by voters to pay for the line extension. The West Orange Stark Middle School football team will be sporting new equipment this season thanks to the JJ Watt Foundation. The Houston Texan All-Pro has a foundation that specializes in helping middle school kids get involved in athletics. Karen Edelman with the foundation says the board has monthly meeting to review online applications received from Watt's "home" states of Wisconsin and Texas. Commissioners Discuss Salaries
The Commissioners Court held a workshop Tuesday morning on the possible reclassification of six county employees and then decided that afternoon to reduce four of those positions. The Court heard comments from department heads during the workshop why their employees should be exempt which carries with it a higher salary or should not be exempt. Natatorium Hours Change
The City of Orange would like to inform visitors of the Natatorium that there will be changes in open swim operational hours, effective Tuesday, June 28. Open swim will now be operational Tuesday through Friday from 3 P.M. to 5:30 P.M., as well as Saturday and Sunday from 5:30 P.M. to 8 P.M. WO Council Hears From New Property Owner
Employees of the City of West Orange had their insurance approved Monday by the City Council for the next year. The insurance plan from the Texas Municipal League will cover health, vision, and dental for the employees. Alderman Dale Dardeau made the motion to approve the insurance package. Dardeau said the employees had reviewed the plan and approved it so the council needs to go with it.
