When it comes to baseball Hunter Uzzle doesn't take any time off. The Bridge City grad just finished his collegiate season at Eastern Oklahoma State where he helped his team win the Conference Tournament. He then packed his bags to play this summer for the Brazos Valley Bombers in the Texas Collegiate League which is a wooden bat league for college baseball junkies. Horse Euthanized For Having EEE
The Orange County Mosquito Control District’s office was notified by the Texas Department of State Health Services that a horse from the Vidor area has tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis. The horse was pastured in the northern part of Vidor, North of I-10 and West of Hwy 105. According to the report received it is not clear whether or not the animal had been vaccinated for EEE and as a result had to be euthanized. BC Tax Rate Hearing
Bridge City held a public hearing Tuesday evening on the city’s proposed budget and proposed tax rate for next year. There were no comments concerning the budget, but citizen Skipper Nixon spoke against the proposed increase in the city’s tax rate. Nixon said he is retired from the Air Force. He and his wife take care of their two disabled daughters on a fixed income. Insurance for their home and for their vehicles have gone up according to Nixon, but they still pay all their bills every month. County Looking For New Drug Store
The Orange County Jail will need a new vendor to provide prescription drugs to its inmates. The more than a century old pharmacy Sholars Medicine Chest which was renewed as the contracted pharmacy for the jail in May is closing as of this Friday after being bought out by CVS. Commissioner David Dubose said Tuesday it was a sad for the Commissioners Court to lose Sholars as a vendor and especially for him since he owned the pharmacy for 18 years before becoming a county commissioner. Three businesses on 16th Street had glass shattered during the early darkness Monday and money was taken from an ATM inside the Family Dollar. "We are investigating these as being connected," Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said. Patrol officers report an alarm went off about 1:30 a.m. Monday at the Market Basket, 3709 16th Street. The IB Cheapers store on Highway 12 in Mauriceville had that problem during the first part of August. Scales went to 26 food businesses and restaurants and gave eight perfect scores.
