Babin Speaks To Veterans
About 60 veterans attended a town hall meeting at the North Orange Baptist Church Thursday night. Congressman Brian Babin was the head speaker joined by representatives from the Office of Veterans Affairs which met at the conclusion of the meeting with individual veterans. Congressman Babin believes the federal government needs to keep its promises made to the veterans. WOS, Vidor Scrimmage At The Butch
The WOS Mustangs and Vidor Pirates took their talents to The Butch in Beaumont Thursday for the final scrimmage of the 2016 campaign. The two played a full game and WOS won 35-19. The Pirates moved the ball but were unsuccessful scoring until the second half where the backups scored 12 of the 19 points. The Mustangs big play capability added quick scores in the first half where they built a 28-7 lead. Man Shoots Himself Near OPD
On August 18, 2016 at 16:19 hrs. an Orange PD detective discovered a white male in a parking lot just north of the Orange Police Department, 303 8th St. A 31 year old white male was discovered in a vehicle with what appears to be a single gunshot to the head. The male was conscious and responding to officers. The male was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. Cards “Line”-ing Up For Successful Season
The Bridge City Cardinals made the playoffs last season in the first year with Dwayne DuBois as head coach. DuBois was happy with his first year as the Cardinals’ coach, but not satisfied. The foundation returns as every Bridge City offensive lineman is back for Coach DuBois from last year’s squad. Joseph Adams, Chase Boneau, Nick Menard, and Zayne Trahan are all three-year starters. Possible Help For Meals On Wheels
Last month the director of the Orange County Meals on Wheels spoke to the Commissioners Court expressing the programs need for more money. Linda Hughes informed the Court her clients would continue to get their meals, but because of funding cuts and a lack of grant funds it may have to be outsourced to someone else. Commissioner David Dubose raised the question of additional funding from the county this week when the Court approved several line item transfers to the county’s contingency fund. Candidates are filing for positions on the Orangefield and Deweyville school districts with the elections set for the November 8 general election. Filing will end on Monday, August 22.
