The first week of the season went as the Bridge City Cardinals hoped it would with a decisive victory and no serious injuries. The competition should get tougher this week though against the North Forest Bulldogs out of the Houston Independent School District. Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn addresses the court on Tuesday. Elected officials got mostly good news Tuesday from the Commissioners Court. In a vote of 3-2 the Court approved proposed salaries for elected county and precinct officers. The change in salaries will mean a pay raise for many of the elected officials and an increase in the county budget. Man Found Holding Baby
A man faces three charges, including endangerment of a child, after police found him Monday night intoxicated lying in a dark area along a highway with a baby. Orange Patrol Officer M.T. Roush reported he found the man lying on his back with his legs in drainage ditch with two feet of water in it. The 1-year-old baby wearing a T-shirt and diaper was on top of the man's chest. Truck Stolen From LCMCISD
It didn't take long for Orange police to recover a pickup stolen from the Little Cypress-Mauriceville school district. Detectives found it parked at the Texas Department of Public Safety office in Orange six hours after it was reported stolen this morning. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said school personnel discovered the three-quarter ton pickup truck missing from the bus barn area about 6 in the morning. The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears battled the weather and the Jasper Bulldogs last week losing a tough one. Coach Randy Crouch says the Bears did have a few bumps and bruises coming out of the opening game, but the biggest hurt was the loss in the contest. Crouch was very disappointed LC-M did not win the game and felt the Bears should have won. “We just didn’t play very smart,” Coach Crouch admits. An opening win is a great way to start the season for the Deweyville Pirates. Coach Lance Dale reflects on the first week of the season for Deweyville as being a good one.
