After working for months writing and editing her first children's book, Latitta Waggoner- BCI's Functional Academics Paraprofessional, published her first children's book! Pay Raise Effective Oct. 1
As of Tuesday’s vote by the Commissioners Court most elected county officials will get a pay raise effective October 1. The deciding vote for the proposed salaries for elected officials was cast by Commissioner Barry Burton who said it was not a decision he made quickly. The Commissioner who was also the swing vote on increasing the proposed tax rate to 60.32 cents per $100 valuation on August 9 indicates he wants to keep the county’s options open until all the budget figures are final. Dead Bat, Live Cat
Flies and gnats weren't the only problem for local food businesses. Orange County Health Inspector James Scales recently found a dead bat at one restaurant and a live cat at a seafood eatery. Only two of 28 food businesses received perfect scores from Scales during the last part of August. He found restaurants and stores with flies, roaches, gnats, a bat and a cat. The lowest score was an 83 for the LCM Mart, 8270 North Highway 87 in Orange. Bryant To Keep His Job
Matt Bryant’s injury made things more interesting than they otherwise would have been, but in the end, it appears he’ll keep his job as Atlanta’s kicker in 2016. Mustangs Travel To LCM Friday
There is always room for improvement especially if you are the defending state champions and you want to make a return trip to the state title game. The West Orange-Stark Mustangs spanked the Nederland Bulldogs in their opening game of the 2016 season. Coach Cornel Thompson is pleased with the result especially the improvement in the West Orange-Stark kicking game, but sees areas that need his and the coaches’ attention. Hoke Asks County To Recycle
Keeping the environment green is a family tradition for Sandra Hoke. She was married to Mike Hoke a strong advocate for taking care of nature and the former administrator of the Shangri La Botanical Gardens in Orange. This week Sandra spoke to the Commissioners Court about recycling in Orange County. She joked that the best kept secret is that there is recycling in the county on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the county dump.
