Wildcats Score But Mustangs Win
The West Orange-Stark Mustangs saw a couple of firsts Friday night but the bottom line is that they are 6-0 after a 45-21 win over Kennedale in Nacogdoches. For the first time the Mustangs went through the first quarter without a score. But they found their way in the second quarter with 24 points as they lead at the half 24-0 with the defense recording its 22nd straight quarter without giving up a point. Bobcats 3-3 After Road Win
Andrew Hoyland (2) and the Orangefield defense make a stop Friday night. The Orangefield Bobcats made the two and a half hour trip to Diboll Friday and came home with the 31-21 win. Christopher McGee started the scoring for OF with a 46 yd touchdown run. The Lumberjacks respond with a 48 yd run for a score but missed the PAT for a 7-6 score. Too Many Turnovers For Bears
The Houston St. Pius X Panthers have an All-American at quarterback, and Friday night he lived up to his pregame press clippings. Grant Gunnell threw for seven touchdowns and ran for two as the Panthers pummeled the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears 62-24 at Parsley Field in Houston. On the season Gunnell now has 36 touchdown passes and thrown for close to 2500 yards. St. Pius X (6-0) is averaging over 50 points a game. At approximately 11:00a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a two vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Orange County. The crash is near FM 1442 and involves a truck tractor semi-trailer. Initial reports indicate that a crash occurred in the westbound lanes of the Interstate between a passenger vehicle and a truck tractor semi-trailer. Bobcats Travel To Diboll
The losing streak was snapped, or maybe more precisely stated, smashed last week by the Orangefield Bobcats. Coach Josh Smalley is proud of the job done by back-up sophomore quarterback Mason Gonzales. The coaches did not put too much pressure on Gonazales who did not have to throw a pass and responded with two touchdown runs as well as no turnovers. Smalley concedes it’s always good to get a win especially after three losses; Gonzales did a good job so we could come out with a victory. Denton Retires After 43 Years
After over four decades of wearing a badge Ronnie Denton retired from the Bridge City Police Department Thursday, September 29. Following his serving in the military Denton joined the Orange Police Department in 1973. He later served with the Texas Department of Public Safety, at the Orange County Jail, and 13 years with the Nederland Police Department before joining the Bridge City Police Department where he has worked the last 22 years. Denton hopes to spend more time with his hobby of blacksmithing that he took up while a peace officer.
