Abner Simon's visited the Cormier Museum during his whirlwind tour of Orangefield Abner Simon grew up in Orangefield and played football for the Bobcats, but he never graduated. World War II got in the way. He was drafted when he turned 18 in July 1945 and didn't finish his senior year. "That's one thing I always regretted, not getting my high school diploma," he said. Homecoming For Mustangs
The first phase of the season for West Orange-Stark came to an end with a solid win over Kennedale last week. As the Mustangs begin the start of district Coach Cornel Thompson says they are in good shape physically. Thompson informs there are the typical bumps and bruises, a few sore shoulders, and a few limping around with ankles from the wear and tear of the game after six contests, but overall the Mustangs are pretty healthy entering district play. Bobcats Tangle With Panthers
The Orangefield Bobcats are coming off a big road win at Diboll last week. They did suffer a loss in that game according to Coach Josh Smalley. Defensive lineman Terry Statum suffered a knee injury. Statum will have a MRI later to determine the extent of the injury. Smalley indicates otherwise the Bobcats seem to be doing well. This week is the start of district for Orangefield against the (6-0) Liberty Panthers. Smalley points out the Panthers boast the most yards per game of any district team as the district begins. A downtown Orange landmark is getting its second new look. The Capistrano, which opened in 1941 on Green Avenue, was designed in a Spanish mission style with stucco. Early in the summer the new owner painted the building black. Thursday, painters were changing the color to a terra cotta shade. The business was a restaurant-bar for decades before becoming a bar only with some food for the last 20 years. Current manager Amanda Bates said the new owner, who bought the building a few months ago, had a vision for how the building would look at night. Stolen Merchandise Returned
An Orange resident had the good news before he learned the bad news. His trailer with a 24" inch Dixie Chopper was stolen from his house Tuesday night. But Orange County deputies found them before the man realized they were missing. Orange police notified the man at 5:19 Wednesday morning. Detective Captain Robert Enmon with the Orange Police Department said sheriff's deputies found the trailer with the mower and checked for the owner through the trailer license plate. Drive-Thru Rage At Taco Bell
On September 18, 2016 at about 12:50 am, officers with the Orange Police Department took a report of deadly conduct. In this case, a white male suspect driving a white Ford pickup truck was in the Taco Bell drive-thru line. While in the drive-thru line, the suspect exited his vehicle and displayed a black handgun and began to point the gun at people in the drive-thru line.
