Pizza Truck Stolen On Delivery
A pizza deliveryman had his pickup truck stolen Wednesday night when he was at the front door of a house. Orange police soon found the truck and returned it to the owner and a 42-year-old woman ended up in the Orange County Jail. Police reported the 26-year-old man from Papa John's Pizza made a delivery about 10:30 p.m. to a house in the 900 block of John Avenue. He told police he was at the front door and two women left. Bears Playing Good At Right Time
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears are going back to the playoffs. The Bears clinched a berth in the post season last week with a decisive win over Cleveland. Coach Randy Crouch believes LC-M is playing its best football of the season. Crouch confesses he cannot say enough about the players bouncing back when things looked kind of grim three weeks ago. The coaching staff has done a tremendous job too. “I think we’re playing better at this time of the year which is real important,” Crouch exclaims. OC Health Inspections
Orange County Health Inspector James Scales Monday shut down the Wendy's on Edgar Brown Drive because the restaurant had no hot water. The store reopened on Tuesday after replacing the water heater. Scales went to 22 food businesses, restaurants and cafeterias during the last part of November. Ten of them, mostly schools, received perfect scores. The lowest was an 88 for the Cypress Plaza convenience store at 1610 W. Park Avenue in Orange. BC Council Approves App
The City Council approved Tuesday night adopting a modified 311 system for Bridge City. The free mobile based application for the public called LUKE, which stands for Let Us Know Everything, is developed by LJA Engineering. George Culver with LJA explained the system to the City Council. He informed them that the app can be used anywhere from Bridge City to California to Florida. The system opted not to have an automated response, but instead a human response that the person’s call has been received. Ben Rice of Zwolle passed away October 30, 2016 at Sabine Retirement after a short illness. He was born January 1, 1936 in Edgewood, Texas to Clifford and Grace Rice. Ben joined the Marine Corps right out of high school. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1963 and made a career in the United States Air Force as a communications officer. After retiring from the Air Force he and his wife, Andrea, moved to Toledo Bend and he began teaching sciences such physics and chemistry in Texas for several years.
