Melvin Dunn of Orange finished second at the FLW Bass Fishing League Regional Championship at Lake Dardanelle in Arkansas last weekend. A top 6 finish qualifies him for the 2017 BFL All-American Tournament will be held May 31-June 3 on Pickwick Lake in Florence, Alabama. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Costa FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour. Dunn said he used crankbaits off the riprap or 1.25 ounce Sweet Beaver to punch through heavy cover. The LCM volleyball team made quick work of Jasper, winning their bidistrict game Tuesday in three sets. The scores were 25-13, 25-10, and 25-14. The game was held in Buna. They will play Tarkington on Thursday at 6pm at Kountze HS. BC lost to Huntington in 5 sets Tuesday, losing 15-11 in the fifth set. Hardin-Jefferson beat Washington in straight sets. House Fire On Chasse Bend
A fire Tuesday afternoon gutted a family room at a house in the Chasse Hollow subdivision. Orange Fire Marshal John Bilbo said the fire appears to have started in a dryer. The fire was at a two-story house in the 2200 block of Chasse Bend. Bilbo said the father of the homeowner was home and smelled smoke. A smoke alarm also started to sound. The man tracked the smoke to the dryer and when he opened it, flames shot out. The fire gutted the room and spread smoke throughout the rest of the house. Truck Stuck
The railroad tracks in West Orange along South Street had to be closed for an hour and a half Tuesday morning after an 18-wheel tractor-trailer rig became stuck on the crossing at Donnell Street. Assistant Police Chief Jesse Romero said the truck was supposed to deliver goods to a local warehouse. A GPS navigator told the driver to turn south off of South Street. The streets at the crossing have a sharp turn for a rig and Romero said the crossing is uneven. Accident On Hwy 12 Tuesday
Texas Department of Public troopers investigated a two vehicle crash resulting with non-life threatening injuries on State Highway 12 near Mauriceville. Around 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, a 2004 Dodge Ram towing a homemade trailer was northeast on State Highway 12. A 1996 Mack dump truck was slowing in preparation for a turn, when the Dodge struck the rear of the dump truck. The driver of the Dodge has been identified as Shane Solley, 29, of Vidor. Orange Replacing Another Firetruck
Months after ordering a new $425,000 pumper truck for the Orange Fire Department, the city will be ordering a second one. The Orange City Council has approved the order. The bill will not be due until February. The two new pumpers will be replacing two 1993 models. Fire Chief David Frenzel said new order has been made for the 2,000 gallon per minute pumper on a Ferrara chassis. The company will loan a pumper to the city while the new one is on order. CC Extends Burn Ban In ESD1
Orange County Commissioners Court voted Tuesday to extend the burn ban in Emergency Services District #1 which includes the Vidor area for at least another week. Orange County Emergency Management Coordinator Charlie Cox made his recommendation to the Court suggesting the burn ban continue for the greater Vidor area, but did not need to be expanded to the rest of the county. Orange County Issues Request For Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund Applications The Orange County Hotel/Motel Tax committee has released applications for non-profit entities within Orange County to apply for a portion of the County’s Hotel/Motel Tax funds. Any 501(C) organization in Orange County that attracts visitors to Orange County Texas can make application to the committee.
