The Cardinals’ Hunter Wiegreffe sank a buzzer beater to give Bridge City a 46-43 victory over the Port Neches-Groves Indians in the final game of the Cardinal Classic basketball tournament Thursday. Accident At IP Sends Two To Hospital
At approximately 1:40pm Thursday, three employees at International Paper in Orange were involved in an accident involving chemicals at the mill. Two were sent to the hospital with one of the two life flighted to a Houston hospital by Acadian. International Paper spokesperson Ashley Moore said The employees were exposed to chemicals used in the papermaking process. They were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 64-year-old man riding an electric handicap scooter was taken to the emergency room after he was hit by a car on Highway 87 South Wednesday afternoon. Orange police report Greg Williford had minor injuries. He was taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency Room. The collision was about 4:15 p.m. in the 3800 block of Highway 87 south of FM 105. Officer J.L. Appeals Court Denies Motion
The United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has denied a motion by Orange County to have the full 12-judge panel hear the appeal of a lawsuit the county lost in trial. A U.S. District Court jury in Beaumont decided the county owes the family of an inmate who died in the county jail nearly $3 million, including legal fees. A month ago, a three-judge panel of the Fifth Circuit upheld the jury's decision. One Man Assaulted; Another Arrested
A man living in the Brownwood neighborhood told Orange police a man he knows punched him in the face during an argument about a dog. The victim also accused the man of pulling a dagger and threatening to kill him and the dog. Orange police were called to the house in the 2300 block of Eighth Street at 5:10 p.m. The victim said after the man pulled the dagger on him, he put the weapon in a sheath and hit him with his fist.
