The Commissioners Court held its weekly meeting Tuesday at the Vidor City Hall. The meeting was moved to Vidor to allow Way Services to do some necessary renovations to the duct work in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Administration Building at the Courthouse. The Commissioners had a rather brief agenda. Approving the revised Travel Policy for county employees was the main item. County Judge Brint Carlton reviewed a few of the revisions made to the policy. Bert was born in Oakland, California, Feb. 20, 1929, to Pauline Fritsch Helm and the Rev. A.J. Helm, and died peacefully at home in Springfield, Missouri, on Feb. 6, 2017. As a boy he lived in Detroit, Omaha, Atlanta, and Rockaway Beach and Springfield, Missouri, where he graduated from what was then Senior High School. Bert was self-supporting from an early age. Fans and players on each bench joined several of the altercations on the floor when the game was stopped with 2:32 left in the first half and Silsbee leading 42-28. Grubbs Tased, Arrested After Pursuit
On Monday, February 6, 2017 at approximately 11:30 am, an officer with the Vidor Police Department initiated a traffic stop on IH-10 at FM 1132 for a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver produced a Texas DL identifying himself as 30 year old David Henry Wurtz. When the Officer asked dispatch to verify the DL and if there were any warrants, a detective from the Vidor PD recognized the name from an on-going investigation involving a counterfeit check cashing ring that involved a vehicle pursuit last week. Strutters Dance At Super Bowl
The Bridge City conspiracy of secrecy got out in a big way. Millions of people around the world watched as nine members of the high school Strutters drill team danced with Lady Gaga at the Super Bowl. They didn't wear their signature red and white uniforms. Instead they had colorful costumes and wigs. Director Cathy Riley said they were invited through a national dance organization. Each Super Bowl halftime relies on dancers who live near the host city. Coach Breedlove Passes
Retired coach and educator Leroy Breedlove died Friday. He was 86. The Breedlove Field at Dan Hooks Stadium was named in his honor. The West Orange-Cove school district reports Breedlove began coaching and teaching in Orange at M.B. North High School in the old Orange Independent School District back in 1964. Through the years, he coached at North Middle School, Stark High School, and West Orange-Stark Intermediate School, Middle School and High School. He retired in 1998. Charles (Chuck) Peet, Jr., a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, nephew and friend passed away peacefully on February 5th after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Chuck was born on January 26, 1966 in Orange, Texas to Charles (Bubba) and Linda Peet. Chuck graduated from LCM high school in 1984. Chuck was married to Misty Simon and had a son, Cullen Peet.
