Joseph E. Myers, 79, of Bedias, TX., formally of Orange, died February 15, 2017 in College Station. After Cremation a memorial will be held Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 3:00 PM in Singleton, TX. Joe was born in Sulphur, LA on August 29, 1937 to Alvin and Lucille Myers. Joe served two years in the U.S. Army. He retired from Temple Inland in Orange, TX after 37 years. The LCM Softball Tournament held in Beaumont Thursday saw the host Bears and Bridge City Cardinals pitch two shutouts. The Lady Bears beat Lumberton 2-0 and West Brook 1-0. Bobcats Host Powerlifting Meet
Thursday: On Thursday February 16th the Orangefield Powerlifting team competed in the OF Invitational Meet. In the Boy’s division, Finishing 1st were Jacob Gulliot in the 148lb class (920lbs) and Aaron Galitz in the SHW division (1,435lbs). 2nd place finishers were Gavin Jackson in the 114lb class, Quy Tsan in the 148lb class, Christian Louvier in the 165lb class and Luke Padilla in the SHW division. Treasure Found Thursday
Treasure hunting fanatics Derek Jacob and Ricky Brannen teamed up to find the winning treasure hunt certificate Thursday morning at about 7:30 in the KOGT Mardi Gras Treasure Hunt. They followed the clues to the Shangri La Botanical Gardens from Thursday’s clue, but noticed each clue took the hunters to a new location so theorized the treasure would not be hidden there. They then looked at all the clues and checked a map of streets in that area. Seeing Rio Grande Street they recalled “south of the border” mentioned in Clue 2. A man told Orange police he was assaulted and threatened with death Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the Alexander Homes on Fourth Street. The man said another man choked him, threw him to the ground, held a knife on him and then pointed a double-barrel shotgun at him. Police report the man was sitting in his pickup truck when a man he knows began shouting at him and saying he would beat him up. The victim said he got out of the truck. Former Inmate Files Suit Against OC
Just when one door closes another one opens. That is not necessarily good news for the Orange County Commissioners Court. The Montano vs Orange County lawsuit was finally put behind the county Tuesday with the payment of over $3 million to the Montano family for the wrongful death of Robert Montano in the Orange County Jail back in 2011. County Judge Brint Carlton said the release of judgment is all that remains in that case.
