Orangefield Junior High Students Payton Wrinkle, 7th grader, and Gracie Cross, 6th grader, were honored as finalists at the Southeast Texas' Better Business Bureau's Laws of Life essay contest. This year there were over 4,000 entries with 22 area schools participating in the program. Sixteen finalists were chosen. I-10 Closures Wednesday
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will conduct a crash reconstruction causing multiple lane closures on Interstate 10, near mile marker 861, in Orange County beginning at 9a.m. on April 26, 2017. The Texas Department of Transportation will assist DPS with all traffic control devices and equipment. Elderly Man Found Tied Up
Two men and a woman from Orange are in jail in connection with tying up an elderly Starks, Louisiana, man and stealing from him. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office reports a Meals on Wheels delivery person found the 83-year-old man Monday in his home. He had been tied up for about seven hours. The man has relatives in Orange. 33-year-old Lea D. Pence voluntarily went to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office to talk to detectives and was arrested Tuesday. 32-year-old Thomas C. Vandals Break Into Warehouse
Vandals broke into the Akrotek warehouse on Front Street during the weekend and caused an estimated $75,000 damage. According to Orange police, 40 or more boxes of plastic pellets were opened and scattered. Also three forklifts were ridden and damaged. Police found prints of a bare foot, a dog paw and three sets of shoes in the white powder left after a fire extinguisher was discharged in the warehouse. Americans during the Great Depression in the 1930s were enthralled by the stories of gangsters. By 1935, the most famous ones, Bonnie and Clyde, Pretty Boy Floyd, Baby Face Nelson and John Dillinger were dead. Clyde Dawson, 21, and B.L. Thompson, 23, weren't infamous gangsters, but they went on a crime spree that included a murder in Orange. They pulled off the first of two jail escapes, a couple of car jackings and a kidnapping.
