Bridge City Intermediate Student Council recently completed their annual Pet Product Drive. They delivered the products to the Humane Society to lots of purrs and wagging tales. The Humane Society is always grateful for our communities help in making the lives of the animals in their care better. The Bridge City Lady Cardinals opened the playoffs with a 6-1 win over Jasper Thursday night in Jasper. Kassidy Wilbur struck out 14 and gave up only two hits, one of those a solo homerun to Brittany Scott. Man Gets 35 Years In Prison
A Vidor man was sentenced Thursday to 35 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter for killing a bicyclist on Highway 12 in October 2015. 41-year-old Ralph Bridwell of Vidor appeared before 128th District Judge Courtney Arkeen to receive the sentence. He was driving a Chevrolet Camaro that hit and killed 38-year-old Raymond Lamar Ross, who was riding a bicycle. The collision was about 10:50 at night and happened on Highway 12 in Mauriceville. The manager of a Dollar General store told Orange police Wednesday evening that she fell victim to a phone scam. Police went to the store at 4725 North 16th Street about 7 p.m. Wednesday. The manager told police a man called the store and told her he was with the corporate loss prevention department. He asked her to get five gift cards and register them for $499.01 each. After she did that, he instructed her to scratch off the coverings on the numbers and tell him the numbers. He told her he needed to update the store's system. State District Judge Courtney Arkeen has rescinded a temporary restraining order against the West Orange-Cove school district and others to prevent high school senior Morris Joseph from going to an alternative school or stopping him from UIL participation.
